Yorkshire Country Residence

A country garden designed as a sequence of spaces, combining a formal lawned garden with a more secluded secret garden. The layout introduces a series of connected areas, including multiple seating spaces and a summer house positioned to capture changing light throughout the day.

Strong underlying structure ensures the garden maintains presence in winter, while generous herbaceous planting provides colour, texture and movement through spring and summer, creating seasonal depth and visual richness.

The planting sequence begins in January with snowdrops and hellebores emerging through the winter framework. As the season develops, vertical Eremurus bring height and drama, complemented by the elegant structure of Veronicastrum, Astrantia varieties including Roma, Capri and Venice introduce softness and detail within the borders, alongside intersectional peonies for seasonal interest.

Architectural planting plays an important role, with Cynara Cardunculus (Cardoon) adding sculptural form and contrast within the herbaceous scheme.

The result is a balanced and layered garden that feels structured yet relaxed, offering a variety of places to sit and enjoy the space throughout the year.
